The Aviary, 9314 111 Ave NW, Edmonton

Emmet Michael is back at The Aviary again with local Sammy Volkov and Vancouver's Zach Kleisinger! Doors at 7:30pm. Advanced tickets available online at the link below, or $20 at the door. https://tickets.fringetheatre.ca/event/601:4557/601:30217/ Introspective and enthralling, with equal parts grit and grace, Emmet Michael is a musician who was built on his trials.Turning to music in his darkest times, he found solace in his ability to share his heart with others through his lyrics. Drawing on his experience as a transgender man, living with mental illness, and battling addiction, his songs carry a tone of desperation and triumph. There is a lifetime’s worth of honesty and vulnerability encapsulated in the Edmonton Music Prize Winning album: “I Hope You’re Home”, the debut full-length album released in summer 2021. A bold, unflinching look at life as an outsider before undertaking a journey of self-discovery that would help mold him into the person he is today. Recently showcased to larger audiences at Canmore and Edmonton Folk Music Festival, Edmonton Fringe Festival, and BreakOut West, his live shows provide an experience simply too incredible for words. His eloquent story telling pairs perfectly with an always evocative performance, allowing those in attendance to connect - to him, themselves and each other. Based in Vancouver, Zach Kleisinger is a compelling songwriter, performer, and international touring artist. His words often feel like a bathroom mirror, while his compositions conjure the emotion of Dylan’s mid-‘70s heartbreakers. Marked by a poetic intimacy, Kleisinger’s songwriting and charismatic live performances have garnered him a loyal audience in the alt-folk community across Canada, the UK, Europe, and the US. “Zach Kleisinger creates music that draws us into an intimate world. It’s a world that makes you want to linger for a while.” Shauna Powers, CBC Lifelong record collecting has left Sammy Volkov with a flair for old-fashioned melodies combined with lyrics that are entirely present and personal. Imagine if Roy Orbison and Townes Van Zandt co-wrote a pop song - weird - but it kinda works. Sammy’s first single ‘Weather Report’ caresses the ear like a dual homage to Orbison and the great Brill Building songwriters, while capturing his almost cinematic approach to making music. ‘Be Alright!’ was the first album to debut at #1 on the CKUA Top 30 Chart. Sammy has twice opened for Mariel Buckley and is looking forward to major folk festival appearances this summer. “Volkov sings like a man out of time.” - The Edmonton Journal
